Hayley first discovered yoga back in 2011 while she was still living in Canada. It was during a particularly challenging time in her life and it became the catalyst she needed to set her on a long path of self-discovery. She noticed very quickly how the mindful presence she was able to cultivate on her mat began to seep into everyday life and kept wanting to dive deeper and deeper into this beautiful practice. In 2015 she made the trek to India to complete her 200hr YTT in Ashtanga/Vinyasa, not realising in the beginning that she wanted to teach but simply to deepen her own practice. During her time in India she came to realise how much joy it brought her not only to practice for herself but to begin sharing this ancient wisdom with others. Upon completion she began teaching in Airlie Beach before moving to the Sunshine Coast in 2016 to continue her journey. In March 2020 she returned to India to further her studies, completing her 300hr YTT as well as becoming certified in Yin Yoga. Hayley loves to come up with creative sequencing to weave into her more fast-paced power classes as well as yin and gentle flows. All her classes combine her passion for anatomy with a strong emphasis on breath inspired movement and energetic awareness.
Getting to know the Zenko Team
Do you have a mantra/quote that you often turn to?
"Everything happens for a reason, find peace in the process" & "What you think, you become"
How do you fill up your love tank?
Walking my dog on the beach is the activity I turn to most when I'm feeling depleted, there is nothing like seeing her run through the sand and play in the waves to fill me up with joy. I love to be outdoors, the beach, the forest, you name it. If it's outside, I'm there. And meditation! My morning meditation is a must to start my day off right, and of course some yoga too :)
What advice would you give someone wondering whether to try yoga for the first time?
Take that first step! I remember being very intimidated to go to my first yoga class, unsure of how it all worked, and worried I would look silly because I didn't know what I was doing. But once you are there on your mat, that worry will dissipate, and trust me, the feeling in Savasana after a good yoga class is so addictive, you will just have to keep coming back for more!
