Kathleen Kingsbury
Kathleen found yoga as a grumpy teenager searching for the meaning of life (true story!) She studied yogic philosophy, meditation, and breathwork for many years, but it wasn't until she was 28 that she attended her first yoga class. She was instantly in love with the physical practice as it transformed her body and calmed her busy mind. An accident at two years old had left her with a cracked vertebrae which developed into scoliosis, and she had lived with intermittent pain and other minor health imbalances her whole life. Regular yoga classes changed everything. Her pain disappeared and her health skyrocketed. She knew from that first asana class that the science of yoga and meditation was something special, and within two years she had embarked on what has turned into a lifetime of joyous formal yoga studies, and sharing what she has discovered.
Kathleen has studied in Australia and India, and taught regular classes, workshops and retreats since 2009. She has over 800 hours of training in yoga and meditation, taking a special interest in mental health, meditation, the energy body, and her absolute favourite work is to share yoga and meditation with beginners. Kathleen has co-facilitated over 100 retreats and around 9000 hours of yoga classes. She also works as a youth mentor locally and interstate.
Getting to know the Zenko Team
Do you have a mantra/quote that you often turn to?
So many! Two that I really resonate with are: "Work is love made visible." by Kahlil Gibran and "We're not here to teach each other, we're here to love each other. Love will teach us." Not sure who to attribute that one to!
How do you fill up your love tank?
I love to go to the beach, go to dancing and drumming circles, sing kirtan, paint, draw, travel, go to yoga classes, and I light up like the sun is inside me when I'm spending time with my children and my partner.
What advice would you give someone wondering whether to try yoga for the first time?
Definitely come and see what yoga can do for you. Classes are full of beginners, and we are a friendly bunch at Zenko. I didn't know I could feel this good until I tried yoga.
