FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
If you've been thinking about joining our Yoga Teacher Training we recommend you add your name to our Pre-Registrations as 2025 this will fill up quickly!
In the mean time, we've put a bunch of our frequently asked questions below for you to read :)
Q: Do I need to be good at/strong in my yoga practice to be able to join?
No- The beauty of yoga in itself is that it isn’t purely a physics practice and the physical practices are truly for everyone. The physical aspects of the practice allow you to
Q: How much of the course is based on the physical aspects of yoga vs. Philosophy?
The asana limb of yoga is one of the main entry points to a yoga practice for most westerners today, so we will start on the body level aka the practices that link to the physical and expand on that with the subtle. On average each day you are at the training you will learn about and how to teach 4 asanas - the rest of the time will be spent between practicing, learning, discussion and connecting with yourself and within the group.
Q: What sets your training apart from others?
We believe that each YTT has a particular energy and of course a way of being presented and created that meets the standards but also is authentic to the trainers and what they are passionate about. Our team of 3 lead facilitators has been chosen because of their combined passions for community, the philosophy of yoga, their love of meditation and pranayama practices and their knowledge of how all of the subtle practices of yoga are shared in asana. Beyond that with over 50 years of combined and collaborative knowledge, learning and practice between them across multiple schools of yoga you will get both depth and diversity from this training.
Q: What does it mean by a payment plan?
Once you’ve paid your $500 deposit we will send you an invoice for the final amount for your training which you can pay off in one amount or in installments of your choosing over the course of the training. All payments need to be finalised before completion of the training and you can decide whether you want to pay installments monthly, bi-‘monthly, fortnightly or weekly. The amount will then range from $200 per week (approx) to $800 per month.
Q: Do I need to be able to meditate?
No! As part of this training, you will learn all about what meditation is, how it can be practiced via a number of styles, tools and processes and will practice regularly whilst at training and at home in between. This is all about learning the foundations - and having time and space to learn and practice it all!
Q: Do I need to be able to (or even want to) do headstands and advanced arm balances?
No, definitely not. You may learn more about these postures during the course of your training but yoga is not about nor solely focussed on this and so it will not be the basis or a dedicated focus of the training. In saying that, should you WANT to learn more about this we will absolutely help you to do so in line with supporting your interests.
Q: What are the pre requisites for this training?
None. All injuries, abilities, levels of practice and experience are welcome. We encourage you to join the training if you practice yoga regularly, but more than that if you are intrigued by, interested in or have a passion for yoga, mental health, physical health and spiritual wellness this course is for you.
Q: Why is this run over 6 months?
During this course you will have OVER 200hrs of learning both in person and through your practice which is a lot of hours! We believe that extending the time you have to review, consider, reflect and practice what you are learning as you go is the best way for the information to sink in. This also means ample time for support, questions and connection throughout the 5 months and beyond setting you up to feel like you have walked away with all of the knowledge you need to practice and maybe even share yoga in your own way.
Q: What if I don’t want to teach a yoga class?
Did you know over 50% of people who sign up for a YTT do so with NO intentions to teach a public yoga class?! It’s true! And if anything signing up with the intention to simply learn because the yoga you know is inspiring you is a great place to start. Teaching or sharing yoga can be done through conversations, with your family and friends and in more public settings too- this course is about personal evolution and transformation and everyone should complete one in their lifetime!
Q: The thought of “teaching yoga” scares me, do I have to do that during the course?
During the course of the training you will be supported to find your voice, stand up in front of your group of fellow trainees and share yoga, yes. In order to transform we must be ready to do something that takes us out of our comfort zone, and you will be shown how to do this in depth by our teaching team from the get go. What you do with that expansion after your training is up to you, but rest assured you will not be the only person worried about standing in front of a group of people and sharing.
Q: What if there is a date that I can’t commit to on the training schedule? Can I still join?
Yes! Whilst it is important when you make the commitment to join that you are doing so with an aim to be there for all of the sessions we know that life happens and we know that there will be an odd occasion that you just cannot make it work. We will record sessions live and everyone will get a training buddy from within the group. With three facilitators you will also have access to throughout and beyond the course no question will go unanswered.
Q: What happens after I finish the training?
The world is your oyster ! You can use this knowledge day to day and moment to moment for you, you can share what you’re inspired by to those you know and love, you can teach about the topics of yoga in your workplace, your community and in yoga studios. More than that, we hope you’ll stay inspired to be a student forever from this training!
Q: You talk about the community, why is that important?
We know that yoga is about union, to yoke together and whilst a huge part of that is union within it means grater connection with all around you too. Our community at Zenko yoga has always been our priority - more than just as individuals but for how we gather, interact and support each other too. Joining our YTT not only gives you the opportunity to learn about yoga but to commit to immersing yourself in our community and for our community to wrap their loving arms around you (figuratively- maybe literally too) in support of the transformation you are undertaking. We can’t do this alone, so we come together to support you and will continue to do so even after you’ve completed your training.
Q: What are the ways I can share yoga after I finish the training?
You can choose a myriad of ways to share yoga after you complete your training, through meditation and pranayama classes, vinyasa/hatha public classes, in private workshops and one on one’s, on retreats, at home, in your family or perhaps you’ll simply be inspired to KEEP practicing with a deeper knowledge and understanding of you!
Q: What do I need to do to sign up?
It’s simple - you pay your $500 deposit, and we’ll get in contact with you to confirm your membership, what books you will need to gather for your training and with an invoice which you can pay in one payment or over the course of the 5 months in smaller amounts
