​Course Overview
This workshop will introduce the core concepts, principles and applications of the Trauma Centre Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) practice.
 
We will explore integrating invitational and choice-based language, to the interactions with clients, with the intention to create the possibility for clients to safely have and notice a positive present moment experience in a yoga class and/or treatment.
 
The workshop is intended to inspire yoga teachers, yoga teacher trainees and/or practitioners to the possibility of inviting an inclusive and accessible trauma sensitive understanding and awareness to the classes and therapies they are offering. 

Key Learning Outcomes
  • Participate in a trauma sensitive yoga practice.
  • To understand the application of latest trauma theories, research, evidence and the key aspects of the TCTSY methodology.
  • Exploring the yogic underpinnings of TCTSY.
  • Explore the use and application of trauma sensitive language for your relevant field of work.
  • Knowledge and support to identify and work with trauma reactions that may arise in a yoga class and/or treatment.
  • Guidelines to modify elements of current yoga classes so that they are trauma sensitive.
  • To learn reflective and self-care tools and skills.

ABOUT TESSA
​
Tessa has been offering inclusive and accessible trauma sensitive therapies and yoga to children, young people and adults in Australia and internationally for over 14 years. Tessa has had the honour to work with people from diverse backgrounds, individually and in small groups, who have experienced complex trauma, through domestic and family violence, child sexual abuse, exploitation, and trafficking, people from refugee backgrounds and young people involved in the criminal justice system.
Tessa is a qualified Social Worker, Level 1 Sensorimotor Psychotherapist, Trauma Centre Trauma Sensitive Yoga Facilitator (TCTSY-F), Yoga Teacher (including pregnancy and teen yoga), Mindfulness facilitator, Advanced Interactive Drawing Therapist, Sandtray and Symbolic Therapist. She has also been practicing yoga and meditation for over 18 years and has continually maintained her curiosity to learn more about how our bodies and minds respond and react to experiences and situations, through expressive and body-based therapies. She is particularly interested in how the practice of trauma sensitive yoga may greatly compliment and support this process for people. 
Tessa’s approach is consistently reflective, responsible and non-judgemental and she has the ability to facilitate a safe environment for clients explore the practice of TCTSY in a way that feels authentic for them and at their own pace.
