Kayur Kotecha
Meet Kayur Kotecha, a regular yoga practitioner since 2018 and instructor of the ‘Strength for Yoga’ class at Zenko Maroochydore studio on Wednesday morning.
Kayur is a dynamic individual and professional whose expertise spans across multiple disciplines, integrating both a global perspective and a rich cultural inheritance. Originally from the United Kingdom, enriched by Indian, African-Caribbean, and British heritage, Kayur migrated to Gubbi Gubbi Country, Sunshine Coast in 2022. Kayur's diverse life is characterised by an array of roles and responsibilities. He is a Human Biology graduate, a qualified Physiotherapist, Rehabilitation Consultant, a Business Founder, and a skilled Photographer. Each role plays a significant part in his journey, demonstrating a unique blend of analytical acumen, compassionate care, entrepreneurial drive, and creative vision. Throughout his career, Kayur has faced and overcome challenges related to his mental health and well-being, a common experience in healthcare professionals dedicated to supporting others through major trauma which sub-consciously clouded his existence. As connection with childhood friends waned, shadows of self-doubt, self-loathing, negative body-image, and low self-esteem also precipitated a feeling of being trapped in a mind and body that seemed alien to him. His experiences are a pivotal part of his growth. Of course, the initial turning point in Kayur's path was his engagement with physical yoga practice! Initiated through a simple invitation from a friend and having a laughing fit in downward dog, yoga philosophy and practices became a cornerstone of his transformation. In 2023, he completed a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training here in Queensland, marking a significant milestone in his development. Kayur attributes his advancement towards teaching yoga to the expert tutelage and mentorship received from his teachers, past and present, and particularly those here on the Sunshine Coast. Their influence has been crucial in combining his professional expertise with his passion for holistic well-being and natural wellness practices. Kayur invites you and the broader community to join him in his commitment to enrich lives through imparting yogic practices. In his yoga classes, he aims to emphasise on mindful positioning and movement of the body, synchronised with conscious breath control, to promote a meditative practice. Do you have a mantra/quote that you often turn to? How do you fill up your love tank? What advice would you give someone wondering whether to try yoga for the first time? |
